Abstract
Being an international young woman scientist brings both unique challenges and opportunities.
On one hand, there are substantial hurdles that these young professionals may face. Cultural differences, language barriers, and adapting to a new research environment can be daunting. They may encounter biases and stereotypes based on both their gender and nationality, potentially impacting their opportunities and how their work is perceived. Balancing family expectations or cultural norms with career aspirations can also be a challenge, as can navigating visa and immigration issues.
However, being an international young woman scientist also presents significant opportunities for growth and learning. Exposure to diverse research environments can broaden perspectives, foster creativity, and enhance problem-solving skills. International experience is also highly valued in many research fields, as it demonstrates adaptability, initiative, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
In this talk, we will discuss those opportunities and challenges and consider how best to use them to contribute to personal growth, career advancement, and the advancement of science on a global scale.
